View Entire Conversations in Outlook
I admit it. I love GMail. Love it. A written, itemized quantification of my love would produce documentation measured in tonnage, but somewhere near the top of that tonnage (or near the bottom, depending on how it's sorted) would be the tracking of entire conversations. I'm completely spoiled for looking at a message and being able to track the entire thread without relying on quoted text within messages.
Unfortunately, at work I'm, um, "encouraged" to use Outlook. I'm not an Outlook hater (and I really kind of like 2007), but now that I've been spoiled, I've come to hate my inability to track entire conversations. That annoys me to no end.
Except I can. And I probably always could. Maybe I just never bothered to dig around in the right places. To see entire conversations:
- Select a folder
- Select View > Arrange By > Conversation
That's all there is to it. There appear to be a few (big) limitations, but it's better than having nothing at all. For those interested or for those who may be able to inform me otherwise, here are the limitations I see:
- The visual presentation of the conversation...sucks. It's far too cluttered for my tastes.
- The grouping only works within that folder. If some messages have been filed away, then those aren't grouped.
- The steps to view messages in this manner must be duplicated for every single messages folder. There appears to be no way to select this viewing method globally.
