Rockin' the Keyboard in Firefox

Every day - and I mean every freaking day - I watch someone enter a new URI into their Firefox address bar by clicking, selecting, deleting and typing. Ugh.

Cmd+L (Mac)
Control+L (Windows)

That shortcut handles the clicking and the selecting, now just start typing. Any existing text will be cleared with the first key press. Windows users have the option of hitting F6 in lieu of Control+L.

A related bonus hint for those who don't already know it: Any time text is selected, in any application, it doesn't have to be "manually" deleted by hitting the Backspace or Delete key. Just start typing. Really.

Update 9.18.2007 {

The title of this post may be misleading or, at the very least, limited.  I've been informed by Andy Jarrett in the comments below that this shortcut also works in Safari, Camino and Opera.  I didn't know that.
Thanks, Andy.

You've got enough to post a Firefox keystroke cheat sheet.

I thought this shortcut was for *all* browsers. I know it works in Safari, Opera, and Camino as well

Perhaps. I haven't really been compiling them as much as writing them down as I come across them or consciously acknowledging that I use them. That's a pretty good idea, though. Maybe I'll consolidate one of these days.

Good point. That could very well be. I rarely open Safari or Camino and I don't even have Opera installed. Thanks for sharing that. I'll update the post accordingly in case others are interested.

All I really knew is that it doesn't work in IE (which explains the title).
